A Collection of Photos with the Horizon 202 Panoramic Swing Lens Camera
I absolutely love Panoramic photography, I always have. It was one of those “tricks” of digital photography which lured me to the DSLR. The ability to shoot a couple frames and stitch them together on your computer later, was such a great notion. But frankly, it gets boring. I’d rather be out taking photos then sat in front of a computer all ours of the night stitching together frames.
So just this past week I was checking out www.lomography.com and discovered they sell a camera called the “Horizon”. It shoots 24mm by 58mm frames, which if you don’t know your maths, is a 2:1 ratio… Panoramics! It uses an interesting lens, called a “swing lens” which rotates cylinder with a slit in it allowing light to hit the film in a nice even manner.
The downside is that the Lomography Society wanted a rather large chunk of change for the two cameras they sell. So I did my research to learn that the Horizon 202, a well made Russian production from days gone by, is essentially the Horizon Kompakt and Perfekt without the fancy Lomography graphics (yay!). To the eBay’s I went and found one for rubles!
It arrived last week in a styrofoam box with carrying pouch, handle, filters and a manual with some rather fun translations. I’ve shot a couple rolls and it took some getting used to. Here’s some preliminary results, hope you like!
