Hurricane Igor: Aftermath
I managed to get out the past couple days to snap a few of the aftermath that Igor left in it’s wake. A lot of the damage is being cleaned up fairly quickly so not much remains now.
The major damage is on Random Island and it’s probably going to be a little while before it gets open. I heard on CBC Radio today that the CO-OP in Clarenville got a load of fresh food together; bread, milk, water, snacks, vegetables, etc. and stogged a boat bound for Hickman’s Harbour.
That is what’s great about Newfoundland though — without batting an eye a local business owner used his position to help out not just one person, but several entire communities.
Several people now are suggesting that the military needs to be called in as the scale of the devastation is just too great for local services to clear up in a reasonable amount of time.
hello, beautiful photography..the pictures give one the feeling of being there…especially if your from there,, i could certainly feel the cold salt water, mist…….you have certainly done nfld proud,,,,,,thank you
Having been through a Hurricane in Virginia several years ago, my thoughts are with you and the communities that were flooded.
I was visiting family for two weeks in August. I do not think I would have wanted to be there for Igor. My brother, who lives in Goulds, sent me by e-mail some pictures of the hurricane and damage done, including the ones I saw taken by Colin Peddle. I told my brother today that I did not see anything on U.S. news about how badly Newfoundland was hit by Igor. They seem to get pictures of countries in Europe and show them on U.S. TV. The only inconvenience my brother and his wife had was being without electricity for 25 hours. Great pictures, Mr. Peddle.

Hey Colin, I guess my swing in the pond was small potatoes!!! Great pics as always, made me feel like I was there. News coverage here was crap. Loved the commentary too, almost better than the pictures…….
What amazing photos you have taken. Great job… My heart goes out to all the families who were hit hard by Igor and are still in limbo.
Mr. Peddle Absolutely awesome photography. Thanks a million.
Amazing photography, but a very sad subject. My sister sent these to me, and other than googling the hurrican e, are the only pictures I’ve seen, we had nothing on US TV or in the newspapers, unbelievable!! I’m so sorry this happened in our little corner of the world, my heart and prayers go out to all affected by this storm.
Incredible pictures! You are very talented and quite brave, I might add!
